Gators Fall to Cedar Crest in Home Opener

BALTIMORE, MD - Visiting Cedar Crest cruised to its second consecutive Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) victory over host College of Notre Dame, 7-0, Saturday afternoon. The Falcons improved to 3-2 overall on the year and 2-0 in CSAC play while the Gators slipped to 1-1 and 0-1, respectively.

Not even the slippery conditions could halt Cedar Crest as the Falcons flew over Notre Dame in doubles competition. The team of Maria Mallery and Alex Kuebler defeated Miku White and Kelcy Bye, 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Sarah Wicks and Laura Shivley along with the team of Sarah Mossner and Amy Dichter topped the Gator teams of Madeleine Foster and Steph Thackoordeen as well as Stephanie Uza and Manda Hollister at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, 8-1.

Shivley also upended Thackoordeen at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0, while Dichter also earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles over Uza. Mossner topped Hollister by a 6-0, 6-3 score at No. 5 singles while Wicks earned a victory at No. 3 singles over Foster, 6-0, 6-2.

Bye had won the first set against Kuebler, 7-6, before rain ended competition for the afternoon with the Falcons up 7-0. White and Mallery had also completed one set before rain forced the student-athletes off the court.

Notre Dame will travel to Rosemont on Tuesday in a CSAC matchup.
