Tennis Collects 8-1 Victory Over TWU

RESULTS

Baltimore, Md.  --  Notre Dame of Maryland University would collect their fifth win of the season as the tennis team defeated local rival Trinity Washington University 8-1 on Senior Day.  Prior to the game, senior Zanobia Jones (Charlotte, N.C./East Lincoln) was honored.  

In the match, the Gators would hold a 3-0 lead after doubles.  No. 1 Doubles of junior Liz Tran (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) and freshman Paola Castillo (San Pedro Sula, Honduras/Escuela International Sampedrana) would capture an 8-0 shutout.  The No. 3 Doubles team of junior Kaitlyn Sommer (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) and freshman Sandy Vo (Baltimore, Md./Parkville) also claimed an 8-0 shutout.  At No. 2 Doubles, the Gators won with a score of 8-2 as the junior duo of Carrie Naylor (Elkridge, Md./Mount de Sales) and Natalie Smith (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) took the win. 

In singles play, Jones took her first victory of the season with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6 Singles.  Castillo won No. 2 Singles 6-2, 6-1, while Naylor won No. 3 Singles 6-2, 6-0.  Smith saw victory at No. 4 Singles and No. 5 Singles went to Sommer with the same 6-1, 6-1 scores.  

With the win, the Gators improve to 5-5 on the season and will return to the court on Thursday as they head to Colonial States Athletic Conference rival Cairn University for an important CSAC match.
