Tennis Defeats Neumann For CSAC Victory

RESULTS

Baltimore, Md.  --  Notre Dame of Maryland University defeated Colonial States Athletic Conference rival Neumann University 5-3 for the tennis team's first win of the season.  The win marks the first time since 2011 that the Gators have defeated the Knights in tennis action.

Notre Dame saw three players capture two victories led by junior Kaitlyn Sommer (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) and freshman Sandy Vo (Baltimore, Md./Parkville).  The pair teamed up to claim the No. 2 Doubles spot 9-7.  Vo would then take victory at No. 3 Singles, winning 6-4, 6-3, while Sommer won No. 4 Singles 6-4, 6-2.

Sophomore Morgan Harter (Aberdeen, Md.) would team with sophomore Catherine Bruzdzinski (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Lutheran) with a score of 8-4.  Harter would also triumph at No. 5 Singles, rebounding from a 4-6 defeat in the first set, but would win the second set 6-2, and would capture the tie-breaker 10-7.

In No. 6 Singles, Bruzdzinski won the first set 6-1 but the match was called due to darkness in the second set.

With the win, Notre Dame improves to 1-1 overall and will return to action Tuesday as they host in-state rival Hood College in the team's first non conference match of the season.
