Tennis Sweeps Rosemont For Second Straight Win: Falls To GMU Saturday

Rosemont, Pa.  --  The tennis team for Notre Dame of Maryland University swept Colonial States Athletic Conference rival Rosemont College 9-0 to pick up their second straight win of the season.  

The Gators opened the match by capturing all three doubles spots, with Junior Liz Tran (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) and freshman Paola Castillo Assaf (San Pedro Sula, Honduras/Escuela International Sampedrana) taking No. 1 Doubles 8-3.  Juniors Carrie Naylor (Elkridge, Md./Mount de Sales) and Natalie Smith (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) captured No. 2 Doubles 8-2, while junior Kaitlyn Sommer (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) and freshman Sandy Vo (Baltimore, Md./Parkville) teamed for an 8-1 victory at No. 3 Doubles.

In singles action, Tran would win the closest set of the match with a 7-5 victory in the opening set, and would take the second set 6-0 to pick up her first No. 1 Singles match of the season.  Castillo Assaf swept No. 2 Doubles 6-0, 6-0 and Naylor claimed No. 3 Singles with scores of 6-2, 6-0.  

At No. 4 and No. 5 Singles, Smith and Sommer both captured victories with the same 6-1, 6-1 score.  Sophomore Morgan Harter (Aberdeen, Md.) would sweep No. 6 Singles 6-0, 6-0. 

On Saturday, the Gators hosted defending CSAC champion Gwynedd Mercy University, but fell 9-0.  

After the weekend, the tennis team is now 2-2 on the year and will return to action on Tuesday as they host in-state rival Hood College in the team's first nonconference match of the season.
