Tennis Claims Victory Over Hood

RESULTS

Baltimore, Md.  --  Notre Dame of Maryland University defeated in-state rival Hood College 5-4 to win their first nonconference match of the season.  The win also gives the Gators three wins on the season, which is more than last year's squad, as well as tying the most wins in the season since 2009.

Notre Dame would start the match 2-0 as Hood was forced to forfeit No. 3 Doubles and No. 6 Singles due to only having five players.  They would add two more wins, pushing to a 4-0 advantage by taking both No. 1 and No. 2 Doubles.  At No. 1, junior Liz Tran (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) and freshman Paola Castillo (San Pedro Sula, Honduras/Escuela International Sampedrana) captured the win with a score of 8-6.  Juniors Carrie Naylor (Elkridge, Md./Mount de Sales) and Natalie Smith (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) took No. 2 Doubles, winning 8-5.

Smith would seal the Notre Dame victory as she would also win No. 3 Singles 6-3, 6-2, to give Notre Dame the 5-4 match win.

With the win, the Gators improve to 3-2 on the season.  They will now look to gain their fourth victory of the season as they will host Summit University of Pennsylvania on Saturday.
