ASTON, Pa. – The tennis team opened its 2016 campaign today, as the team traveled to Aston, Pa. to face conference foe, Neumann University. The Gators scored a 7-2 victory over the Knights. 

Notre Dame came out hungry, as the club swept doubles play.  Seniors Elizabeth Tran and Carrie Naylor opened play with an 8-6 No. 1 doubles victory. Fellow seniors Kaitlyn Sommer and Natalie Smith paired to earn an 8-6 No. 2 doubles win, while junior Morgan Harter and sophomore Sandy Vo followed with a 9-7 No. 3 doubles victory.

The Knights responded with a No. 1 singles victory but the Gators took the next four singles matches to claim their first win. 

Naylor scored a straight set victory in No. 2 singles, while Sommer earned a 7-5, 6-2 No. 3 singles win. In No. 4 singles, Smith lost just one game, as the senior earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Vo clinched the win with a 6-4, 6-2 No. 5 singles win. 

The Gators host Rosemont College on Friday for a 3 p.m. matchup.
