Ortiz Named Head Tennis Coach

BALTIMORE, Md. — Notre Dame of Maryland University announces the addition of Mark Ortiz to the Gator coaching staff as the Head Tennis Coach.  

Ortiz is a local guy who was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland and was a top ranked junior in Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic Region, which included Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC. 

A Division I tennis player, Mark attended the University of Maryland, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree.  Mark made the All-ACC Student-Athlete Honor Roll five times and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

As a junior at the University of Maryland at College Park, Mark also received and academic Government and Politics Scholarship to study abroad at the University of Kent in Canterbury where he became the captain of the tennis team.  At University of Kent, he led the team to their conference title and qualified them for the national tournament in Wales, while going undefeated as their number one player.

Mark has worked as a tennis professional at various local tennis clubs including the L'Hirondelle Club of Ruxton and the Chartwell Golf and Country Club in Severna Park. Mark also worked as a tennis professional at the Mid-Atlantic Junior Tennis Academy which initially started as one of Nick Bollettieri's Academy's at the St. Timothy's School in Stevenson MD. He has worked as a Sales Representative for FILA USA and managed retail stores for Under Armour, Inc.

Mark currently coaches a women's USTA team in Annapolis, Maryland and is a tennis professional at the Aspen Hill Club in Montgomery County. He is excited to join the Notre Dame Campus Community and to bring his passion and love for the sport of tennis to the team. He is looks forward to working with the current team and looks forward to building a respectable and lasting tennis program.
