HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. -- Notre Dame field hockey was on the road today in their second of four road games to close out the regular season. The Gators suffered a tough loss in overtime, 2-3.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Gators fell behind in the second giving up the first goal in the 26
th minute.
The Gators went into halftime down one, but came out firing in the third.
Sophomore
Vanessa Dunn scored her 13
th of the season, assisted by freshman
Jaime Ballard in the third quarter. In the next minute, the Cyclones retook the lead, 2-1.
Notre Dame responded in the third when Dunn notched her second of the game, this time off a pass from sophomore
Makeima Elise Freeland.
In the fourth quarter, the Gators had several looks at the goal, but couldn't land one. Centenary and Notre Dame went into overtime tied, 2-2.
In overtime, Notre Dame again posted several shots against the Cyclones, but in the 66
th minute Centenary posted the game winner.
In goal for the Gators,
Fallon Katz had five saves against the Cyclones. Dunn led the team with 13 shots, while the team finished with 24.
Field hockey moves to 3-2 in the conference with one conference game remaining. The Gators are still in the playoff hunt.
WHAT'S NEXT?
In the final week of the regular season, the Gators will be on the road for two games. On Tuesday, Notre Dame will face non-conference opponent Catholic University. In their season finale, NDMI will travel to Keystone College.
