Softball Falls to Rosemont in Final Road Doubleheader

ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Notre Dame softball team was in action today in their final Colonial States Athletic Conference doubleheader on the road this season.  In their third doubleheader of the week, the Gators challenged the Ravens, but dropped the doubleheader, 1-7 and 6-8.

GAME 1
Six players recorded hits in game one against the Ravens.  Sophomore Jodie Bronushas notched the first hit of the game in the first inning, recording a single in her first at bat.

In the third inning, the Gators got on the board.  With two outs down, junior Isa Carunungan doubled to right center to put a runner in scoring position.

Following Carunungan, senior Samantha Kastner singled to center field to move Carunungan to third.  Singling in her second at bat, freshman Amethyst Stevens scored Carunungan from third.

Bronushas, Carunungan, Kastner, Stevens, and sophomores Rena Dyson and Samantha Miguez Tolliver each recorded a hit in the game.  Carunungan and Dyson both notched doubles in game one.

Pitching for the Gators, Bronushas recorded four strikeouts.

GAME 2
In game two, the Gators fell down early to the Ravens, giving up two runs in the bottom of the first, but tied the game up in the top of the second.

Leading off in the second, Stevens and junior Naudiya Hopkins drew two consecutive walks to put runners on first and second. 

Junior Maya Lazaro grounded out to the pitcher in a sacrifice hit to move both runners in scoring position.  With two outs down, lead-off freshman Maci Lopezsingled to right field to score both Stevens and Hopkins.

After giving up three runs in the bottom of the second, the Gators got back within two when Dyson scored Carunungan from third after she reached on a single.

In the bottom of the third, the Ravens tacked on two more runs to take a 7-3 lead, but the Gators didn't give up the fight.

In the top of the sixth, Carunungan got the bats going, notching her second double of the day.  Kastner singled and advanced to second.  With runners in scoring positions and two outs, Stevens doubled, scoring both Carunungan and Kastner. 

After giving up another run in the bottom of the sixth, Bronushas doubled to score Lazaro from second to add on one more score for the Gators.

They fell short in the comeback, 6-8.

Bronushas, Carunungan, and Stevens each finished game two with two hits apiece, with Lopez and Kastner adding one apiece.  Stevens and Lopez also finished with two RBI. 

Carunungan notched seven strikeouts pitching for NDMU.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Gators will finish their 2019 season on Saturday as they host Clark Summit University at CCBC Dundalk.  Seniors Sammy Kastner, Hunter King, and Maya Lazaro will be honored on Senior Day in between game one and two.
