SAAC Supports Student-Athletes with Snacks

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Notre Dame Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is getting the ball rolling early on the newly adopted NCAA DIII legislation regarding snacks and nutritional supplements.

During the 2020 NCAA Convention held in January, the Division III membership voted to adopt new legislation that would allow schools to provide snacks and nutritional supplements to student-athletes, beyond what is already permitted during road trips. The new legislation will go into effect in August of 2020, and it is believed to address issues such as food insecurity, as well as overall nutrition for student-athletes.

SAAC Snacks

This spring semester SAAC has decided to support this legislation with enthusiasm. They decided to stock the team room full of snacks such as protein bars, and trail mix to keep the student-athletes fueled and energized throughout the day. They believe that all the student-athletes can benefit from this, whether they are in season or not.

"We have a lot of student-athletes that are commuters or have busy schedules so they can't find the time to get something to eat before class or practice," said current SAAC President, junior Hannah Amodia. "SAAC providing these snacks in the team room will give our student-athletes the ability to grab something quick and healthy and go on with their day."

The Notre Dame SAAC will continue to replenish the team room full of a variety of snacks and nutritional supplements all semester long.
