Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Downed at Washington College (Md.)

BALTIMORE – Notre Dame of Maryland University's field hockey team falls to 1-2 on the season after a tough 9-1 loss to Washington College (Md.) on Wednesday evening. Goals were hard to come by for the Gators. Senior Vanessa Dunn found the back of the net for the second consecutive game but a 4-0 deficit after quarter one would prove to be too much for Notre Dame (Md.).

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • An early goal two minutes in shifted the game in Washington College (Md.) favor allowing the Shorewomen to jump out to a four-goal lead after the first.

  • Two goals in the second would extend their lead going into the half.

  • The Gators took the fight to the Shorewomen in the third by silencing their offense with goalkeeper Jensen Armstrong facing eight shots in the quarter.

  • Later in the third Dunn got the Gators on the board with just under three minutes to play but the deficit was too much for Notre Dame (Md.) to overcome.

OF NOTE

  • NDMU lost the penalty corner battle 15-2.

  • The Gators were outshot by a wide margin 42-3.

  • Armstrong had a 15 save evening nearly doubling her season total. She has 33 on the year.

  • Dunn's goal puts her in the team lead. She leads Notre Dame (Md.) with six points.
