BALTIMORE, MD – The Notre Dame of Maryland softball team (5-9, 2-4 CSAC) took down Keystone (11-9, 5-1 CSAC) on Wednesday evening to split the in-conference doubleheader. The Gators received a gem on the mound from
Ciarra Bockstie, allowing just two runs in the first and going six scoreless in the 2-1 loss.
Jessie Leatherwood went seven strong in game two, receiving six runs from the Gators bats to split the series.
Game One
- Notre Dame started the game behind after an early swing for a two-run homerun from Keystone's Paige Mokychic.
- Miranda Burton got the Gators their first hit in the bottom of the fourth but NDMU struggled to get runners on the bases.
- Maci Lopez extended her hit-streak in the sixth inning to 13 games off a single down the line.
- Down 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh, Bockstie started to get a late rally going to back up her seven-inning five strikeouts performance with a one-out hit.
- Madison Zielke walked and Candace Forgach-Aguilar brought the Gators within one score off an RBI single with one out remaining.
- Keystone hong on for the 2-1 win to advance to 5-0 in the CSAC
Game Two
- The Gators got off to a fast start in game two as Leatherwood started the game striking out two in a scoreless first.
- In the bottom half, Burton got on base on a single and Kendall Snyder blasted a double to put both runners in scoring position with Bethani Newbold on deck.
- Newbold went deep for a long double to drive both runners in.
- NDMU extended its lead on the next at-bat as Bockstie made contact for a single to bring Newbold in.
- Leatherwood struck out two more batters in the top of the second and went on to finish with seven total, allowing only two earned runs.
- Burton drove in two runs in the second bringing in Leatherwood and Forgach-Aguilar. She went on to finish 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
