Owings Mills, MD- The Notre Dame (MD) softball team fell twice on the road to local foe Stevenson University on Wednesday, Mar. 8. The Gators dropped game one 30-0 before rebounding to fall in game two 7-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gators struggled in the opening game of the doubleheader, and could not find any offensive rhythm. The team was hurt by six errors that allowed Stevenson University to get rolling and pull away in the five-inning victory.
NDMU reset after there game one defeat, and looked to challenge the Mustangs in game two. Trailing 2-0 in the second inning, the Gators offense began to find some traction.
Jessie Leatherwood led off the inning with a single and worked herself into scoring position.
Scarlett Miller lined a double into right center field, allowing Leatherwood to score.
Stevenson responded adding two more runs in the second inning to surge ahead 4-1. In the circle for NDMU, Leatherwood settled in keeping the Mustangs off the scoreboard for the next three innings. On the day she would throw 6.0 innings allowing seven runs, four of which were earned, on 11 hits while striking out four.
The Gators plated another run in the sixth inning.
Miranda Burton hammered a ball deep into right field, allowing her to triple with only one out in the inning.
Lilyian Hafner hit hard ground ball up the middle, allowing Burton to score, cutting Stevenson lead down to two. The Mustangs responded, scoring three runs in the bottom of the inning to put the game out of reach, winning 7-2.

The Gators will have a 10-day break before hosting John Jay College in their home opening doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 18. First pitch is schedule for 12 PM
