COLUMBIA, Md. – Playing its in first doubleheader in school history, the Notre Dame of Maryland baseball team split a pair of games against Juniata College at Blandair Park on Saturday.
The Gators (2-3) took the opener 6-5, while the Eagles (1-2) won game two by an 11-4 count.
Game 1 – Notre Dame 6, Juniata 5
The Gators secured its first walk-off win as Hunter Beil singled home Chase Cichocki in the bottom of the ninth with two outs. Ben Boyer had three hits on the day, while Beil had two hits with three RBI. Ryan Parks also had two hits for the Gators.
Trailing 3-0 after the first inning, the Gators got on the board when Beil homered to right field, followed by Zane Cook scoring on an error.
Down 5-2, Kevin Goedeke scored on a bases loaded hit by pitch in the sixth, followed by Logan Ward scoring on a fielders choice. Parks would later score on another fielders choice.
Brennan Deremeik got the win, throwing four innings in relief of Tyler Sampson. Deremeik got three strikeouts and two walks in five innings of work. Sampson worked the first five, striking out eight and walking five.
Game 2 – Juniata 11, Notre Dame 4
The Eagles built a 9-0 lead before Notre Dame scored four runs in the sixth with Beil having a two-run double and later scoring on a wild pitch.
Luke Thompson had two hits in the loss, with Beil having the lone two-run hit in the sixth.
Ian Strickland took the loss, striking out four and walking three in five innings of work. Vlad Oleynyk had two strikeouts and three walks in two innings of work.
Notre Dame heads to McDaniel next Sunday for a doubleheader with the Green Terror.
