Baltimore, Md. – Notre Dame (Md.) (0-9) faced a challenging series of games against McDaniel College (8-7-1) and Penn College (16-7), ultimately falling short in both matchups.
In the first game against McDaniel, Notre Dame started strong, taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Annabelle Hafner reached first on an error, advanced to third, and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Julianna Leatherwood. The Gators continued their offensive push with contributions from
Bethani Newbold and
Claire Smith, who both secured hits to bring additional runs across the plate. However, in the fifth inning, McDaniel rallied for four runs, seizing a 4-3 lead. Despite a strong response from the Gators with a three-run rally later in the inning led by
Ava Vecchioni's key single, McDaniel managed to capitalize on defensive errors in the final inning, scoring three runs to clinch an 8-6 victory.
In the second game of the doubleheader with McDaniel, Notre Dame initially fell behind, trailing 3-1 after the first inning. However, a significant fifth inning saw the Gators explode for six runs, taking a 7-4 lead. Smith's double, followed by a two-RBI double from
Scarlett Miller, helped shift the momentum. Unfortunately, McDaniel countered with four runs in the sixth inning, regaining a narrow edge and ultimately winning 8-7.
Facing Penn College in their next game, Notre Dame began with a promising start, scoring three runs in the first inning, with Smith delivering a two-RBI single. The Gators maintained a competitive spirit, with a notable run in the eighth inning to tie the game at 4-4, but ultimately fell in an 11-inning thriller, with the final score being 5-4.
