Gators Split Doubleheader Against Mary Baldwin

ABERDEEN, MD - The Notre Dame of Maryland Gators split a high-scoring doubleheader with Mary Baldwin University on Saturday afternoon, taking game one 10–5 before falling 12–9 in game two.

Game 1 : Notre Dame of Maryland 10 - Mary Baldwin 5

Mary Baldwin struck first with a two-run home run in the first inning, but the Gators responded quickly in the second inning when Gabriella Allred delivered an RBI single to cut the deficit in half.

Notre Dame took the lead in the third inning as Raegan Perkes drove in a run with an RBI single. The Gators continued to add to their advantage in the fourth inning, beginning with an RBI double from Julianna Leatherwood. Claire Smith followed with an RBI single before Perkes delivered once more with a three-RBI triple to extend the lead.

Mary Baldwin added a three-run home run in the fifth inning to trim the deficit, but Notre Dame answered in the sixth when Leatherwood tripled home a run to cap the scoring.

In the circle, Gogel earned the complete-game victory, pitching all seven innings while striking out five and allowing eight hits and two earned runs.

Game 2 : Notre Dame of Maryland 9 - Sarah Lawrence 12

Mary Baldwin opened the game with a three-run first inning, using a pair of run-scoring doubles and an RBI single to take the early advantage.

The Gators responded in the bottom half of the inning when Eleanor Flores recorded an RBI single before Leatherwood followed with an RBI ground-rule double to cut the lead to 3-2.

Mary Baldwin added to its lead in the third inning with a solo home run and later another run across on an RBI single through the right side to extend their lead to 5-3.

Notre Dame chipped away at the deficit in the fifth inning behind RBI singles from Perkes and Scarlett Miller to tie the game 5-5.

The contest turned into an offensive battle in the sixth inning as Mary Baldwin plated six runs in the top half of the frame. The Gators answered with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

The Gators struggled collectively in the circle with Leatherwood ultimately taking the loss, allowing six hits and seven runs.

The Gators will try to bounce back after a short break on Friday, March 20 at 3PM when they square off against Oswego State for another home doubleheader.
