Softball takes opener against Gallaudet; Game Two PPD due to weather

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A five-run first inning was more than enough for the Notre Dame of Maryland University softball team as the Gators (6-8, 3-0 UEC) defeated Gallaudet (4-9, 0-3 UEC) 8-2 in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon.

After a long rain delay, the first game was called in the sixth due to the weather. Game two will be played later.

Lilyian Hafner and Scarlett Miller each had two hits in the win, with Miller getting two RBI. Anabelle Hafner and Julianna Leatherwood each had a hit, while Anabelle Hafner and Raegan Perkes each had two runs scored.

Notre Dame got on the board when Anabelle Hafner scored on a sacrifice fly from Leatherwood. Lilyann Hafner would later score on a throwing error, which also scored Claire Smith.

The inning was capped off by a two-run single from Miller that scored Perkes and Annabelle Shumski.

In the second, Anabelle Hafner scored on a throwing error. Lilyann Hafner then singled to center, which scored Eleanor Flores.

In the fifth, Perkes scored on an RBI groundout by Malorie Gogel.

Gogel got the win in the circle, striking out four and walking five in five innings.

The Gators will head to PSU-Abington on Saturday.
