Softball splits a pair with PSU-Abington

ABINGTON, Pa. – The Notre Dame of Maryland softball team split a United East doubleheader on Saturday with PSU-Abington.

In the first game, the Gators defeated the Nittany Lions 4-3, and in game two, Abington (9-11, 1-5 UEC) defeated the Gators (4-9, 4-1 UEC) 7-6.

In game one, Claire Smith went 3-for-3 with a run scored, while Anabelle Hafner, Lilyian Hafner and Gabriella Allred each had two hits.

Anabelle Hafner scored the first run of the game in the first inning, on a sacrifice fly by Eleanor Flores.

Trailing 3-1, Notre Dame plated three runs in the fifth when Smith scored on an RBI single by Raegan Perkes, while Perkes and Lilyian Hafner would later score on an error.

Malorie Gogel got the win, scattering nine hits in seven innings of work

In game two, Juliana Leatherwood went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI, while Lilyian Hafner, Perkes, Allred, and Scarlett Miller each had two hits.

Notre Dame took a 3-1 lead after three innings as Allred and Leatherwood each had RBI hits. Later in the sixth, trailing 5-4, Anabelle Hafner drove in Allred, while Hafter would later score on a double by Leatherwood.

Perkes took the loss, striking one out and walking two in six innings of work.

Notre Dame will host Wilson on Tuesday.
