Immaculata, PA - College of Notre Dame Volleyball defeats Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Immaculata University 3-1 on Thursday evening. The victory improves the Gators to 17-10 overall and 6-4 in conference play.
Setter Cory Santos (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad) recorded assists on 34 of the Gators 46 kills on the evening. The junior also picked up 17 digs and four service aces. Outside Hitter Catherine Subrizi (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) lead all players with 19 digs and 11 kills. Margie Maresca (Prince Frederick, MD/Huntington) also provided a spark for College of Notre Dame’s offense with 11 kills, three assists and a service ace.
The Gators and Mighty Macs were well matched in all four sets. There were six lead changes in the opening set. Immaculata took the opening few points before College of Notre Dame responded with strong attacking play to regain a two point margin. The Gators would hold their two point cushion to the 17-15 mark. Immaculata quickly tied up the match at seventeen all; the Mighty Macs and Gators would be tied six more times before either team could secure the set. College of Notre Dame secured the opening set 27-25 after consecutive kills by India Scott, Ebony Rivers and Catherine Subrizi.
Neither team could string more than two points together at the start of the second set. College of Notre Dame’s Ebony Rivers stepped up to serve with the game tied at 11-11. The Gators look the next seven points, four of which came from services aces. College of Notre Dame continued to hold their point margin and close out the set 25-19.
College of Notre Dame led almost the entire third set, but a late surge by the Mighty Macs allowed them to overtake the Gators 25-22. The fourth set was very similar to the first in that there were a significant number of ties. Outside Hitter Margie Maresca recorded the final two points for the Gators, the first was a kill assisted by Santos and finally a service ace.
