HACKETTSTOWN, NJ – College of Notre Dame Volleyball traveled to Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Centenary College Saturday afternoon for a tri-match which also included Rutgers-Newark.
The Gators opened up the day against Centenary College, who was undefeated in conference play. Centenary would take the first two sets from College of Notre Dame, 25-22 and 25-18. With their backs against a wall the Gators came out strong, taking the third set in decisive fashion, 25-17. College of Notre Dame would pull the match even at two sets a piece with a fourth set victory, 25-21, forcing a fifth and final set. Riding the momentum of the previous two sets, the Gators were able to overpower the Cyclones, 15-8, handing Centenary their first conference loss of the season.
After an impressive five set win over Centenary College the Gators faced Rutgers-Newark. College of Notre Dame took an early one set lead over the Scarlet Raiders, but Rutgers-Newark quickly evened up the match, with a second set victory. College of Notre Dame’s offense would continue to play well taking the third and fourth sets, 25-21 and 25-19 respectively.
Senior Catherine Subrizi (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) led the Gators in the two matches with a combined 27 kills. Margie Maresca (Prince Frederick, MD/Huntington) recorded 23 kills and 19 digs. Setter Cory Santos (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad) finished the day with 48 assists, 30 digs and 5 service aces. Libero Christina Kudrna (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) had 26 digs on the afternoon, while senior Katie Murphy (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic) had 17 assists and 14 digs.
