Aston, PA - College of Notre Dame volleyball comes up short at #3 Neumann University in the first round of Colonial States Athletic Conference playoffs on Tuesday night. Game scores were 20-25, 13-25, 14-25.
The opening game was full of energy with each team ready to get their postseason play under way. The first game was so tight that there were five ties before either team reached ten points. As the game progressed, neither the Gators nor Knights could string more than three points together. College of Notre Dame’s late surge to overtake Neumann was unsuccessful.
The Gators quickly found themselves trailing the Knights at the start of the second and third games. College of Notre Dame’s persistent attack began to reduce Neumann’s lead, but their valiant effort would not be rewarded with a win.
Catherine Subrizi (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) led the Gators with 11 kills. Margie Maresca (Prince Frederick, MD/Huntington) notched nine kills and five digs. Setter Cory Santos (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad) dished out 21 assists and notched three service aces. Santos and Christina Kudrna (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) each picked up nine digs.
College of Notre Dame concludes an impressive season 18-11 overall and 7-4 in CSAC play. Highlights from the 2010 season include Subrizi setting a new College of Notre Dame all-time kill record with 1294 kills. Santos led the nation for a month with 1.44 aces per set. Finally, College of Notre Dame is currently ranked #8 in the national polls for aces per set as a team with 3.2 aces.
