Volleyball falls 3-1 to Goucher

Baltimore, Md. - October 4, 2011 -
The Notre Dame of Maryland University volleyball team fell 3-1 to cross town rival Goucher College Tuesday evening in the MBK Sports Complex.


In game one, it was a battle from the beginning, with the score deadlocked several times and the Gators prevailing 26-24. The Gophers cruised in game two, picking up the win 25-13.

In game three, the Gophers jumped to a 9-3 lead, forcing Head Coach Henry DeTitta into a timeout. The Gators picked up the point off a Lani Caldwell kill, though Goucher built an 18-9 lead. The Gophers would take game three 25-13 and game four 25-7. 

Caldwell (Elkton/Rising Sun) and classmate Marylu Ortiz (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino) combined for 9 of the Gators’ 13 kills, with Ortiz adding 11 digs. Cristina Aquia (Baltimore/Institute of Notre Dame) added six digs. The loss moves the Gators to 2-11 on the year, while Goucher is now 6-12. 

Notre Dame continues its non-conference homestand when Trinity Washington University visits Baltimore on Thursday, October 6 for a 7:00 p.m. match.
