Gators edged by Hood in non-conference basketball action

Notre Dame of Maryland University fell to visiting Hood College, 71-57, to close out the 2011 portion of their season. The Gators slip to 0-8 overall, while the Blazers move to 2-8.

Freshman Imani Stokes (Baltimore/Polytechnic Institute) picked up her fifth double-double, with a game-high 22 points and 20 rebounds. Niccole Brown (Annapolis) and Sasha Vassel (Palm Beach, Fla./William T. Dwyer) each scored in double figures, with 19 and 10 points respectively. Junior Amanda Brenner (Westminster) grabbed seven boards.

Dyanna Prater led Hood with 14 points, while the Blazers had three other scorers in double figures, with Jessica Talley (10 points) and Rachel Wiley (11 points) helping the offensive push. Emily Maerz had a double-double (13 points, 12 rebounds) in the Blazers second win of the season.

Notre Dame of Maryland will resume play on Friday, January 6 when St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) visits Baltimore. Tip off is set for 5:00 p.m.
