Box Score Baltimore, Md. -- Notre Dame of Maryland University's volleyball team can be found in the top ten of the NCAA National Rankings halfway through the 2013 season.
Freshman Cleaya Antes (Carson, Calif./California Academy of Math and Science) is currently ranked ninth in all of Division III play with 6.1 digs per set this season. Antes also leads the Colonial States Athletic Conference in digs and her 283 digs places her second in the league. In just her second collegiate appearance, she posted a school record 46 digs in a 3-2 victory over College of St. Elizabeth. Antes followed that feat by recording 43 digs in another 3-2 win over in-state rival McDaniel College. In total, she has eight matches with over 20 digs so far in her freshman campaign.
The Gators as a team are also in the national rankings, as the team is also ranked ninth this year in aces, scoring 3.24 aces per set. The squad has posted over 15 aces in seven matches this year, including 25 in a 3-0 win over local rival Trinity Washington University. Notre Dame features five players with double-figure aces this year, led by junior Paige Kitchen (Hagerstown, Md./Hagerstown Community College) with 30. Antes has chipped in with 27 while sophomore Kamelya Medina (Albuquerque, N.M./New Mesa) has 19. Junior Marylu Ortiz (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino) has contributed 17 and senior Cortney Silvis (Boonsboro, Md./Hagerstown Community College) added 16.
In Wednesday night's game, the Gators struggled to overcome some early woes, dropping the Colonial States Athletic Conference match to Cairn University 3-0, losing 25-16, 25-10, 25-20 and will return to action Friday night as they will host CSAC foe Keystone College.
