Box Score Immaculata, Pa. -- Immaculata University won the first two sets which would be too much for the Gators to overcome as Notre Dame of Maryland University fell to the Mighty Macs 3-1 in a matchup of Colonial States Athletic Conference rivals.
Leading Notre Dame was senior
Marylu Ortiz (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino) as she posted 13 kills and also paced the team with two blocks. Aiding the offense was freshman
Bobbi McDowell (Shady Side, Calif./Bishop McNamara) who she added 10 kills with freshman
Ashley Pasker (Newark, N.J./University) chipping in with eight. Freshman
Jamie Reyes (Yorba Linda, Calif.) notched 31 assists and finished with a team-high four aces.
Defensively, sophomore
Cleaya Antes (Carson, Calif./California Academy of Math and Science) posted 16 digs while Ortiz added 14 and Reyes contributed 13.
The Gators started slow, dropping the first set 25-13 but rebounded and kept the second set close, pulling within a 21-20 deficit, but would be unable to get any closer as Immaculata took the second set 25-22. Notre Dame found their way in the third set as they used a 9-0 run while trailing 20-16 to claim the third set 25-20. In the fourth and final set, the Gators jumped out to a 21-14 advantage. However, the hosts answered with an 11-2 rally to finish the match with a 25-23 victory.
Notre Dame, 4-4 in the CSAC now drops to sixth in the standings and a tie for the final playoff spot with Baptist Bible College, who the Gators will take on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day. Prior to the game, Ortiz will be honored as part of the Senior Day celebration.
