Gators Win Twice In Home Opening Tri-Match

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Baltimore, Md. ---  Notre Dame of Maryland University claimed two victories as the Gators hosted Hood College and New Jersey City University in a home opening tri-match. 

Leading the offense today was senior Marylu Ortiz (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino) with 19 kills.  She also tied freshman Taylor Manger (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco) with a team-high 10 aces.  Freshman Grace Park (Clarksville, Md./Atholton) added 17 kills while freshman Ashley Pasker (Newark, N.J./University) chipped in with 13 kills.  Freshman Jaime Reyes (Yorba Linda, Calif.) posted 51 assists.  

Defensively, sophomore Cleaya Antes (Carson, Calif./California Academy of Math and Science) paced the squad with 28 digs while Park and Reyes contributed 13 each.  Pasker notched eight blocks on the day, including six solo blocks.  

In the opener against Hood, the Gators won the first set 25-21, but dropped the second set 16-25.  After intermission, Notre Dame re-grouped to claim 25-16 and 26-17 victories for the 3-1 win.  Ortiz finished the first match with 14 kills and posted a .281 hitting percentage and added six aces.  Pasker posted six blocks over the four sets while Antes notched 14 digs.  

Hosting NJCU in the nightcap, Notre Dame opened the match taking a 25-19 victory.  The Gothic Knights fought back, taking each game to the wire, but the Gators came out on top, claiming 25-23 and 25-22 set victories for the team's second sweep this year.  Pasker proved effective to end the tri-match, leading Notre Dame with 10 kills.  Manger also came up big for the squad and notched seven aces.  Antes again led the defense with 14 digs.  

The Gators, 3-4 on the year, will return to action on Thursday as they host crosstown rival Goucher College.
