Volleyball Falls In Five-Set Thriller

Box Score Baltimore, Md.  --  Notre Dame of Maryland University rebounded from a 2-0 deficit to win two straight sets, but would fall short as the Gators fell to their crosstown rival Goucher College in volleyball action.  

After falling 25-17 and 25-15 in the first two sets, the Gators fought back to capture the third set 25-19 and fourth set 25-21.  In the fifth set, Goucher would eventually pull to a 15-11 victory to claim the 3-2 win.  

Leading the Gators was sophomore Ashley Pasker (Newark, N.J./University) who notched 13 kills while sophomore Grace Park (Clarksville, Md./Atholton) added 10.  Sophomore Jamie Reyes (Yorba Linda, Calif.) paced the team with 33 assists and four aces.  

Defensively, junior Cleaya Antes (Carson, Calif./California Academy of Math and Science) led the defense with 30 digs.  Park chipped in with 16 while freshman Peyton Smith (Valley Lee, Md./Great Mills) posted 13.  Sophomore Bobbi McDowell (Shady Side, Md./Bishop McNamara) finished with two solo blocks and sophomore Brooke Bowman (Garden City, Mich.) and Reyes both put up two block assists as well.  

Notre Dame will look to bounce back quickly as they return to action Thursday by visiting University of Valley Forge.  The Patriots come into the match at 4-3 after defeating Rosemont College 3-1 Tuesday.  Megan Freed has a team-high 58 kills through the season while Jaime Summers has notched 93 assists.  Four players have achieved double-figures in aces, with two players having a team-high 19 each.  Defensively, three players have posted over 40 digs, led by Brittany Eberly's 79.
