Baltimore, Md. – The Notre Dame of Maryland University basketball team opens up their season at home tomorrow night against University of Valley Forge. In his first season,
Tom Gizzi takes the reins as the Head Coach and looks to improve on Notre Dame's 8-17 record from last season.
The Gators, returning seven players from last season, will use their experience to lead the team to success this season. One of seven juniors,
Zaria Comer paced Notre Dame with eight double-doubles last season and going into this season with 17 for her career. She averaged 12.6 points per game and broke the Notre Dame single season block record, finishing the season with 41. Junior
Stephanie Roche ended last season ranked ninth for three-pointers a game for the CSAC and broke Notre Dame's single-game record of made three-pointers against Cairn with seven.
Juniors
Ashley Guy and
Shelby Cochran will help the Gators on both ends of the court this season. Cochran ended last season with 82 points while Guy more than doubled her points performance last year from her freshman year, recording two double-doubles.
Daishawna McNeil rounds out Notre Dame's returning juniors and will add depth to this years squad.
Notre Dame welcomes back junior
Kaitlyn Walter who was a member of the team in the in their 2014-15 season, posting 32 points and 26 rebounds. Walter joins newcomer, junior
Dania Taylor who comes to the squad with significant offensive and defensive experience. Sophomore's
Justine Mudiay and
Justice Walrath will help pace the Notre Dame offense and defense as last season at they combined for 370 points, 112 assists, and 75 steals.
In the Colonial States Athletic Conference
preseason poll the Gators were slated to finish 10
th this season with Gwynedd Mercy University receiving the top spot.
