Single Season and Game Records Reached in Conference Victory

Box Score Langhorne, Pa. – The Notre Dame of Maryland University basketball team traveled to their last road Colonial States Athletic Conference game of the season against Cairn University.  The Gators saw two career highs and one new single season school record in the 67-53 win over the Highlanders.

Notre Dame was led in scoring by sophomore Stephanie Roche (Baltimore, Md. / Perry Hall) who recorded a career high, 21 points off a career high, seven three-pointers.    With seven three-pointer against Cairn for Roche, she is now moves into a four way tie for made three-pointers in a game.  Freshmen Justice Walrath (Severna Park, Md.) and Justine Mudiay (Baltimore, Md. / Cristo Rey Jesuit) both ended the day with eight points each while Walrath led the team in assists with six.  Sophomore Ashley Guy (Leonardtown, Md.) also posted eight points in the game, ending the day with nine rebounds.  The Gators reeled in 50 rebounds, their second game this season with 50 or more.

Sophomore Zaria Comer (Leesburg, Va. / Tuscarora) notched her eighth double-double this season, scoring 14 points and reeling in 13 rebounds.  Comer now has over 500 career points.  In the win, Comer also recorded one block, claiming a new school record for most blocks in a single season at 38.  The previous record of 37 was held by Nicole Kilgannon from the 1998-99 season.  Comer now holds two season block records, last season she tallied 35 blocks, putting her in third overall as well.

Notre Dame jumped out to a strong lead, 6-2, off two three-pointer by Roche in the first minute and a half of the first quarter.  Over the next three minutes, Cairn would go on a 10-0 run, to take a 6-12 lead with 4:50 left in the first quarter, their first lead of the game.

The Gators would charge back, regaining the lead with 3:43 left in the first quarter, off a pair of layups by Mudiay and Roche's third of seven three pointers of the game, 13-12.  After an idle minute and a half of play, Cairn would take a one point lead with just over two minutes left in the first.

On the opposite end, after a missed three-pointer by Mudiay, Guy would grab the offensive rebound and put back to regain the lead, 15-14.  With a one point lead by Notre Dame with just under two minutes left in the first, the Gators would pull away, holding the lead for the rest of the game.  Notre Dame would close out the first with a 19-14 lead.

In the fourth quarter, a layup by Walrath with 5:50 left in regulation, the Gators would hold their largest lead of the game at 21, 63-42.  Cairn would score seven points to close out the fourth quarter, but the Notre Dame lead would be too much to overcome.  The Gators would claim their fourth conference victory of the season, 67-53.

The Gators will close out their season next week as they see non-conference opponent Trinity Washington on the road Tuesday and CSAC opponent Cabrini College Saturday.
