Volleyball Sweeps Trinity in Season Opener

Box Score
BALTIMORE, Md. – The Notre Dame of Maryland University volleyball team soared to its first win of the season, as the Gators downed Trinity Washington University (TWU) 24-1, 25-10 and 25-7, improving the club to 1-0 on the year.

The Gators jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in game one but Trinity would get on the board following an attack error. It would prove to be TWU's only point of game one, as the Gators recorded the next 19 points to take game one.

Trinity showed life in game two, as the two teams were tied at six but Notre Dame went on a 19-4 run to close out game two.

TWU recorded the first point in the third set, before the Gators followed up with a pair of service aces from freshman Mary Marquez. Trinity evened the score at two but the Gators answered with seven straight points. NDMU would outscore the Tigers 16-5 to secure the victory.

Juniors Bobbi McDowell and Stephanie Roche led the day with 16 combined service aces, eight each, while freshman Ricelle Taganas tallied seven. Marquez finished with a game high three kills to go along with two service aces. Taganas and senior Margaret Pedersen each collected four digs in the win.

The Gators will host Bowie State University on Saturday at a time to be determined.
