Volleyball 3-0 In Conference After Victory Over Defenders

Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. – The Notre Dame of Maryland volleyball team hosted Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Clarks Summit University Saturday afternoon.  The Gators bested the Defenders in straight set to remain undefeated at home and in conference play.

Notre Dame was led by junior Ricelle Taganas who posted nine kills and 10 digs.  Senior Cassidy Keller and freshman Kayleigh Davis recorded seven kills each with junior Jamie Reyes posting 26 assists and two aces.  On the defensive end, junior Bobbi McDowell notched 5 blocks (3 solo, 2 assisted) with four kills while senior Cleaya Antes posted a team-high 24 digs. 

The Gators jumped out to a 6-0 lead over the Defenders, their first points coming off a kill by Keller from Reyes.  Notre Dame would take game one over Clarks Summit, 25-10, with junior Ashley Guy closing out the frame with one of her three kills in the match. 

The Defenders would open the second set going on a 4-0 run until a kill by Keller would put the Gators on the board.  Down 12-16, Antes would go on an eight point run to give Notre Dame their first lead of the set, 20-16.  Clarks Summit would fight back getting within two, but Notre Dame would outlast the Defenders claiming the second set, 25-22.

In the third set, the Defenders would hold a four-point lead, Gators down 3-7.  A short run by Davis would tie the game at eight apiece.  The game would see two more tied scores before the Gators would break the 18-all tie to take the lead for the final time.  Notre Dame would seal the game with two kills to claim their third conference win of the season.

With the victory, the Gators move to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in conference.  Next, the Gators host Neumann University on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
