Team Effort Surges Gators Past Tigers

Box Score Baltimore, Md. – The Notre Dame of Maryland basketball team claimed a non-conference win over local rival Trinity Washington University, 79-45.  The Gators posted their largest win margin of the season over the Tigers, seeing every player recording points and rebounds in the win.

In the win, Notre Dame had three players record over 15 points in the game led by juniors Ashley Guy and Shelby Cochran with 16 apiece.  Cochran posted her second-career double-double, leading the team in rebounds with 10, while Guy added eight rebounds and was 6-for-7 from the free-throw line.  Junior Kaitlyn Walter recorded a career-high 15 points and posted a team-high three-three pointers and eight rebounds.  On the offensive side of the ball, juniors Dania Taylor, Stephanie Roche, and Lindsey Webb, let the team in assists with four apiece.

As a team, every player contributed points and rebounds in the game, while also posting several season highs.  The Gators reeled in 50 rebounds, tying their season-high while also having a season-high 39 defensive rebounds.  Notre Dame posted season-highs with a .857 free-throw shooting percentage and 23 team assists.

In the first two minutes of the first quarter, the Gators would jump out to a seven-point lead.  After a basket by the Tigers on the opposite end of the court, Notre Dame would not let Trinity get any closer.  In the first quarter, Notre Dame would jump to a 20-point lead with just under a minute left, holding Trinity to just seven points.  Through the first half, the Gators would outscore the Tigers, 43-16.

In the third quarter, Trinity would tie their first-half total, but Notre Dame would regain a double-digit lead going into the final frame, 61-32.  In the fourth quarter, the Gators would break into a 30-point lead off a layup by Cochran by Roche.  Notre Dame would record 37-bench points to help surge the Gators past the Tigers, as they would finish with a 79-45 victory.

With the win, the Gators move to 6-10 overall this season and will face CSAC opponent Marywood University Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
