Box Score 2 BALTIMORE, Md. – The Notre Dame volleyball team went 2-0 over their weekend trimatch, hosting the Christendom College Crusaders and the Manhattanville College Valiants.
In their first match of the day, the Gators secured a 3-0 (25-14, 25-10, 25-19) victory over Christendom. Freshman
Sarah Sweet led the team with nine kills followed by freshman
Michaila Sheedy and senior
Ashley Guy with eight. In the victory, the team posted 37 kills, their most in a three-set match this season. Sophomores
Mary Marquez and
Kayleigh Davis paced the team in digs with 16 and 13, respectively. The team finished with 58.
In the final match for Notre Dame, the team faced off against Manhattanville. A hard fought game saw several lead changes and game point opportunities for both teams. The Gators dropped the first set to the Valiants, 25-22. Notre Dame would take game two in a come-from-behind victory, 25-21. Both the third and fourth sets went into extra points, but in both, the Gators would come out on top 26-24 and 27-25.
Sweet led the team with 29 kills, which is good for second in Notre Dame record books for kills in a match. Davis followed with nine kills and Guy added eight. The team finished with 53 kills, which is tied for a team high this season. Senior setter
Jamie Reyes led the offense with 49 assists, while the team finished with 52 for a season-high. On the defensive end, both Davis and Marquez posted career-records in digs. Davis had a career-high and match-leading 28 digs, while Marquez tied a career-high 26 digs, set earlier this season.
With another two solid team victories in the books, the Gators move to 8-2 this season. Notre Dame has one more non-conference match up before starting their conference schedule. On Wednesday, the team will host Washington Adventist, then travel to Clarks Summit University on Saturday for a quad-match.
