BALTIMORE, Md.
The Notre Dame Gators took on Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Cedar Crest on Saturday afternoon.
Coming off of three straight wins, the Gators fell behind early as the Falcons scored 8:28 into the game.
The offense for Notre Dame had a plethora of scoring chances midway through the first half but couldn't find the back of the cage. Freshman Vanessa Dunn and Sophomore Keyeria Dawson added pressure but couldn't prevail.
The Falcons maintained a quick paced offense and forced three straight corners. The Gator defense stepped up in a big way, led by Freshman Goalkeeper Fallon Katz and two incredible defensive saves by Sophomore Michaela Seay.
With that stand by the Gators the moment shifted and led to a Notre Dame scoring chance. Senior Megan Morales scored the game tying goal assisted by Dunn. Morales' seventh is a team high for the Gators.
With the large crowd on their side Notre Dame added another goal to break the tie. Freshman Kelsey Campbell put in her 5th goal of the season 10 minutes into the second half.
A penalty stroke for Cedar Crest gave them an easy opportunity to tie the game at two.
Playing a player down (yellow card) the Gators had to fend off back to back corners at the end of regulation to hold the tie.
Both teams had scoring chances in the first over time but the game remained tied at two into second ever time period. With 40 seconds left in the second overtime period Dunn streaked down the field but couldn't find the net and that sent the game to a shootout.
A back and forth affair only led to a back and and forth penalty shoot-out. The Gators scored first but Falcons added scores on their final stroke for the victory.
