Box Score HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Notre Dame basketball traveled to Centenary University on Saturday for their second to last Colonial States Athletic Conference contests of the season. The Gators battled Centenary throughout the game, but couldn't get break through the Cyclone 10-point lead as they fell, 62-51.
The Gators had three players record double figures in scoring led by senior
Zaria Comer and junior
Justine Mudiay who both finished with 11 points each. Seven of Mudiay's 11 points came from the free-throw line as she went 7-for-10 from the line. She also had a season-high and game-leading, 11 rebounds and led the team with two steals.
Senior
Dania Taylor tallied 10 points for the Gators, while also leading the team with three assists. Comer recorded two blocks in the game, effectively tying her Notre Dame record for most blocks in a season at 50. On the boards, senior
Ashley Guy reeled in 10 rebounds for Notre Dame, nine of which came on the defensive end.
To open the first quarter, junior
Justice Walrath got Notre Dame on the board early, downing a three-pointer in the first minute of play. Taylor earned her first of three assists for the game. The Cyclones fought back going on a 6-0 run over the next four minutes. After a rebound on the defensive end, Taylor helped cut the Centenary led to one going coast-to-coast, Notre Dame down, 6-5.
With three minutes left in the first quarter, Notre Dame was down, 10-5. The Gators held the Cyclones to just three points to close out the first, going on an 8-3 run. Comer put up the final two points to see the game tied after one, 13 all.
Through the first three minutes of the second quarter, the Gators and Cyclones traded points. Right after Notre Dame took a small one point lead off a Guy layup, Centenary answered regaining the lead on the other end, 17-16.
Notre Dame scoring fell silent over the next six minutes letting Centenary take a 13-point lead, 29-16. Comer posted the last three points for the Gators, as they went into halftime down, 29-19.
In the second half, Notre Dame traded points with Centenary, eventually outscoring the Cyclones, 20-19 despite losing Comer early to fouls. In the fourth, the Cyclones managed to keep just out of range of the Gators as they eventually fell, 62-51.
The Gators will have two non-conference contest next Tuesday and Thursday, before closing out their season at Keystone College next Saturday.
