Volleyball Increases Win Streak with Comeback Home Victory

BALTIMORE, Md. -- While the Griffins were looking to avenge a loss from earlier this season tonight, the Notre Dame Gators increased their win streak to nine after a comeback victory downing the Gwynedd Mercy in five sets, 3-2.

In the first set the Gators posted a 25-11 victory, tallying 11 team kills, hitting for .250. Games two and three were snagged by the Griffins, 25-20 and 25-18, respectively. 

In the fourth, the Gators fired back winning 25-21, posting 13 team kills.  Notre Dame was down 19-17 before a late serve run by freshman Emma Jordan helped take the lead.

In the fifth set, Notre Dame started slow seeing them down 5-1.  A strong service run by sophomore Sarah Sweet helped get the Gators back to even at seven apiece.  After trading points, holding a narrow 11-10 lead, junior Kayleigh Davis helped close the door, serving the team to a 15-10 victory.

The Gators finished the match with an 54 team kills and 75 digs. Sweet posted a double-double finishing with 14 kills and 12 digs. 

In only two sets played, sophomore Anna Gamble posted one of her best matches at NDMU going 6-for-7, for a .857 hitting percentage.

Sophomore Michaila Sheedy continues to lead the CSAC in hitting percentage and racked up 11 kills, hitting .524 against the Griffins. 

Junior Sara Few and senior Ricelle Taganas combined for 44 assists for Notre Dame. 

On the defensive end, junior Mary Marquez led with 23 digs followed by sophomore Kayleigh Davis with 18. 

At the net, Alyssa Kerns finished the game with five solo blocks and three block assists.  Kerns currently leads the CSAC in solo blocks with 18.  She also posted seven kills in the win. 

The Gators continue to lead the CSAC with 141 service aces, tallying 17 tonight by seven different players. Sweet led with five service aces followed by Davis with three, while Jordan, Taganas, Marquez, and freshman Stephanie Morgan contributed two each.

The Gators head to Penn State Berks for a trimatch where they will also face PSU Abington.
