BALTIMORE, Md. – The Notre Dame field hockey team posted their fourth consecutive victory Saturday afternoon, defeating the Bryn Athyn College Lions, 4-1. On Senior Day, the Gators got off to a slow start, but came to life in the second quarter to take the conference victory. Seniors
Emily Garzon and
Jessica Wells were honored prior to the start.
After a scoreless first quarter, NDMU struck first, as sophomore
Kelsey Campbell scored her first of the season in the 25
th minute.
The Gators would find the goal again late in the third as sophomore
Vanessa Dunn scored off a long ball assisted by senior
Jessica Wells.
In the fourth, Notre Dame added two more scores to increase their lead. Sophomore
Katie Hawkins notched her fourth of the season, assisted by Campbell in the 47
th minute. Dunn added her second of the game and 12
th of the season late in the fourth, assisted by sophomore
Alyssa Wilkerson-Dietz.
The Gators outshot the Lions 15-1, only giving up Bryn Athyn's lone score. The also had 14 penalty corners against the Lions.
NDMU will continue their record-breaking season next week. With the Gators sitting at 7-6 overall, this is the first time in program history since 2004 that the Gators had more than seven wins in a season. In 2004, the field hockey program won the AWCC Championship and finished the season 8-8.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Notre Dame has wrapped up their regular season home schedule after today's game. The Gators will be on the road four their final four games. On Wednesday, they will travel to Wilson College and on Saturday will travel to Centenary. NDMU is still in the hunt for their first CSAC playoff spot with three conference games remaining.
