DUNDALK, Md. – The Notre Dame Gators hosted Lancaster Bible College on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader. NDMU split games with the Chargers, blanking them in game one, 5-0 and fell in game two, 3-14.
GAME 1
The Gators got on the board in the first inning, scoring two early runs. Both juniors
Naudiya Hopkins and
Isa Carunungan scored on pass balls.
Hopkins reached on a walk, batting second, and advanced to third base after a single by Carunungan. Carunungan moved into scoring position on a passed ball when sophomore
Jodie Bronushas was at the plate. After drawing a walk, Hopkins scored on a passed ball, which also advanced Carunungan to third. While freshman
Amethyst Stevens, was at the plate, Carunungan also scored on a passed ball, giving the Gators a 2-0 lead in the first.
In the fifth inning, Notre Dame added another run. Leading off for the Gators, freshman
Maci Lopez drew a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. With a runner in scoring position, Hopkins hit a single down the left field line to score Lopez from second.
In the sixth inning, the Gators tacked on two more runs to seal the shutout victory. Sophomore
Samantha Miguez Tolliver scored Stevens on a single to left field batting third for the Gators in the bottom of the sixth. After Miguez-Tolliver advanced to third base, Lopez hit a single through the infield to score Miguez-Tolliver.
While the Gators were strong at the plate, Bronushas, pitched a shutout; the team's fourth shutout in a row. She racked up seven strikeouts and only allowed four hits in seven innings.
At the plate, Lopez led the team with two hits, recording a RBI, and scored one run. The team scored five runs on five hits.
GAME 2
In game two, the Gators started down, giving up three runs in the top of the first. Down three at the bottom of the second, Notre Dame got on the board.
Batting second, sophomore
Rena Dyson sinlged down the left field line and advanced to second after a passed ball. Miguez-Tolliver moved Dyson to third after hitting a single up the middle. Junior
Maya Lazaro notched her first hit of the game, hitting a single through the right side, scoring Dyson from third.
In the final three innings, the Chargers outscored the Gators 11-2 to take game two.
Bronushas recorded eight strikeouts in game two, finishing the day with 15 strikeouts in 12 innings pitched.
Senior
Samantha Kastner, Hopkins, and Miguez-Tolliver lead the team with two hits apiece
