Gators Score Four Unanswered in Win, Honor Three Seniors

BALTIMORE - Seniors Vanessa Dunn, Hailey Lockard, and Maia Giafes played their final field hockey game at Alumnae Field in Notre Dame of Maryland 4-1 win against Lancaster Bible College (1-11, 0-4 CSAC) on Saturday afternoon. Dunn was her usual self with four points but it was freshman Nwanneka Udolisa that found the back of the net for goal twice in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Late in the second, with 15 seconds on the clock, Lockard made a defensive stop that would shift the momentum after stealing a pass on a failed Lancaster Bible penalty corner attempt.
  • Lockard struck a pass of her own 60-plus yards down onto Dunn for the highlight hockey assist. Dunn delivered an easy feed to Udolisa for her first.
  • Tied 1-1, the Gators came out the second half on the attack, looking to seize the lead. After getting two shots off on Alyson Geckle's penalty corner, the Gators would get a second corner try.
  • Lockard got off a strike that hit the post but Geckle was right there to clean it up for the score. Notre Dame would take the 2-1 lead.
  • The Gators next score came with just over two minutes left in the third period. Dunn made her way through the Charges defense and found Udolisa for her second goal to give NDMU a two-score lead.
  • With the win in hand, Dunn scored her fifth goal this season off a pass from Geckle's penalty corner pass.
OF NOTE
  • Notre Dame (Md.) offense was rewarded, connecting on 14 of 17 shots as the Gators were constantly on the attack.
  • The Gators held the advantage creating chances. NDMU won the penalty corner battle 10-5.
  • With the win Notre Dame moves to 3-0 all-time against Lancaster Bible College.
  • Goalkeeper Jensen Armstrong has 86 saves to lead the Gators. She has three in the win.
