Gators Send Ravens Packing on Senior Day

BALTIMORE – Seniors Anna Gamble and Angel Carino were horned at the start of Wednesday evening Notre Dame of Maryland volleyball match against Rosemont (6-15, 3-5 CSAC). The pair were a part of the 2018 and 2019 CSAC Championship teams and members of the Gators 2019 NCAA Tournament berth. On the evening, Carino led Notre Dame with a .917 return percentage and 17 digs on defense to give the Gators their eighth conference victory in a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-9) sweep. 


HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Carino's strong performance started in the first set when she returned eight digs in the Gators' come from behind set win. Down 12-6 in the first, Ciarra Bockstie added two blocks to keep the Gators within striking distance. 
  • Gabbi Taganas joined Bockstie as the pair was able to maintain control at the net. Taganas added three blocks, giving the Gators five total blocks in set one. She also contributed to the Notre Dame attack with four kills in the set. 
  • Taganas would remain dominant at the net. She finished with a team-high 10 kills.
  • Jade Stewart was clicking for the Gators on both ends. She had three kills in the first and ended with six kills for second-most on the team. Stewart added 14 digs to the Gators defense. 
  • Emma Mueller jump-started the Notre Dame attack with five aces, 11 assists, and five kills on the evening. Natalie Newton had a game-high 14 assists. 
  • Stephen Morgan finished with 11 digs and two aces as the first Gator off the bench. 

OF NOTE
  • With the win, the Gators clinch the two seed in the CSAC playoffs and will host a semifinal match on Thursday, Nov. 4. 
  • Taganas ranks fourth in the conference with 152 kills on the year. Bockstie appears in the top-10 with 106 kills. 
  • Bockstie leads the CSAC with 47 total blocks. 
  • Defensive specialists Carino, Stewart, and Paulina Hernandez are two, three, and four amongst the league leaders in digs. 
  • Notre Dame moves to 14-1 all-time against Rosemont
