Gators Drop Road Contest at Hood College

BALTIMORE - Notre Dame of Maryland University's field hockey traveled to Fredrick, Maryland for a midweek non-conference clash with Hood College. Playing in its third game in six days, the Gators played the Blazers to a hard-fought 2-3 game. The Gators stepped out of conference competition and will return to conference play on Saturday afternoon. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Blazers got off to 1-0 lead with just over the 13 minute but the Gators defense led by Katie Hawkins held strong the rest of the evening. 
  • Down 2-0, Vanessa Dunn scored off a pass from Hailey Lockard to get NDMU on the board. A late score would give Hood a 3-1 lead into the third. 
  • In the third period, Alyson Geckle delivered a solid set-piece on a penalty corner that led to Nwanneka Udolisa's first career score. Udolisa's goal would bring the Gators within one score. 
  • Jensen Armstrong tallied eight saves in the third period to keep the Gators within striking distance. The sophomore ended the game with a career-best 17 saves. 
OF NOTE 
  • Dunn has four goals on the season to lead all Gators. She also leads with 10 assists.
  • Hood won the shots battle 28-3.
  • NDMU holds the all-time series lead 10-8.
