Gators Drop Road Contest at Morgan State

BALTIMORE – The Notre Dame of Maryland basketball team suffered a 87-35 defeat at the hands of Morgan State (1-4) on Friday evening at Hill Field House. The Gators will fall to 0-3 and prepare for the Colonial States Athletic Conference opener at Saint Elizabeth. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Early turnovers allowed the Bears to jump out to a 6-0 lead. Notre Dame's first bucket came 5:21 in on a Daija Fitchett layup, assisted by Amya Durham
  • After 10 unanswered points from the Morgan State side, the Gators ended the quarter with a score to end the first 16-5.
  • In the second quarter, 11 early points would give Morgan State a 27-5 lead three minutes into the quarter. 
  • The Bears dominated the offensive boards with 13 offensive rebounds en route to a 35-14 first half. 
  • The Gators offense could not get into a rhythm in the second half. Morgan State made 13 trips to the line in the third and ran away with the quarter 30-5.
  • Down 65-19, the Gators scored 16 in the final quarter shooting 40%. Notre Dame's most impressive quarter wasn't enough to get them back into the game.

OF NOTE
  • Fitchett was Notre Dame top scorer and rebounder for the second time this season. With 12 points and 11 boards, Fitchett gets her second straight double-double of the season. She had three blocks for the third consecutive game. 
  • The Gators struggled to get shots off due to costly turnovers. NDMU forced 21 turnovers but gave the ball away 36 times in the loss. MSU scored 43 of its points off turnovers.
