Gators Fall to 1-1 in CSAC After 65-63 Loss at Home

BALTIMORE – The Notre Dame of Maryland basketball team took an eight-point lead into the final quarter on Saturday afternoon but fell 65-63 to Keystone (2-1, 1-0 CSAC). The Gators received five huge threes off the bench from Chantel Curry but missed opportunities at the line and late miscues in the fourth quarter ended with the Gators on the wrong end of the early season nail biter between the two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the first quarter, Alexis Durham led the way for the Gators with four points and two dimes. Ayana Brim got off to a hot start in the paint with five points and a late three-pointer from Curry would have the game tied at 14-14 after one.
  • Notre Dame shot 54% from the court, shooting (6-for-11) to start the game.
  • Brim continued to have a strong afternoon in the second adding four more points and an assist as the Gators trailed 27-22 with just under three minutes remaining in the half.
  • Curry came into the game with little over two minutes to play and scored back to back three to give the Gators a 30-29 lead going into the half.
  • The Gators offense led by Curry and Brim saw a huge spate in the third quarter. The Gators outscored the Giants 21-16. Curry added two more threes in the quarter to give Notre Dame a 51-45 lead with one to play.
  • Keystone scored nine unanswered to tie the game at 56-56 with five minutes left in the game. Alexis Durham came down the court and buried a three to put Notre Dame up. After a missed layup attempt from the Giants, Durham went coast-to-coast to put NDMU up 61-56. The Gators went (1-for-6) from behind the charity stripe late in the fourth as Keystone went (7-for-11) to steal the road victory.
OF NOTE
  • Alexis Durham was finding the open shooter all night distributing eight assists for a game-high. She had eight assist against Saint Elizabeth last game (11/23).
  • Daija Fitchett, current CSAC Defensive Player of the Week had her fourth straight double-double (10 points, 15 rebounds). She added two blocks on the defensive end for the Gators.
  • Notre Dame (Md.) will fall to 4-12 all-time against the Giants.
