BALTIMORE – The Notre Dame of Maryland basketball team suffered a 73-53 defeat on the road against Hood College (4-3,1-1 MAC) on Monday evening. The Gators forced the Blazers into mistakes all evening but could not capitalize on their offensive touches. The loss will drop the Gators to (3-5, 3-1 CSAC). Notre Dame (Md.) will take a stab at win number four on the CSAC schedule when it hosts Cairn University (4-5, 2-2 CSAC) on Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blazers got off to a hot start. Hood went on a 7-0 run to start the game before the Gators found their first score on a Daija Fitchett made field-goal.
- Notre Dame struggled finding offensive efficiency in quarter one. The Gators went (2-for-12) on baskets from Amya Durham and Ayana Brim but could not get going from the free-throw line. Hood took a 19-7 lead into the second.
- In the second quarter, the Gators saw more offensive production from their starters as NDMU was able to hold Hood to (3-for-11) shooting in the quarter.
- Alexis Durham had her best night yet scoring the basketball. Led by Durham, the Gators showed a lot of fight in the second half. The freshman had 17 of her 18 points in the second half.
- Hood College led by as many as 29 points in the fourth quarter in route to the 73-53 victory.
OF NOTE
- Alexis Durham led all scorers with 18 points in addition to forcing a game-high four steals. She added a career-best seven rebounds and tallied three assists on the night. Durham leads the team this season with 34 assists and is top-five amongst conference leaders.
- Fitchett rebounded in double-figures for the seventh-straight time this season. Her 37th career game rebounding in double-figures. Fitchett also recorded a steal for the sixth consecutive game.
- The Gators will fall to 22-10 all-time when facing the Blazers.
