BALTIMORE, Md. – The Gators wrapped up the regular season on a high note with a 19-1 victory over Cedar Crest. Notre Dame of Maryland finishes the regular season undefeated, and had already clinched the top seed in the Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament when they entered play today.
The Falcons of Cedar Crest played with just ten on the roster putting them at a disadvantage. The Gators were at full strength, but without leading goal scorer,
Kelsey Campbell. Plenty of others picked up the slack, but the affair was quite lopsided. Notre Dame out-shot Cedar Crest 29-2 in the first half alone. For the game the Falcons were able to successfully clear on just four of 12 attempts, and the Gators commanded the draw circle 19-3. Those numbers tell you that the Gators were basically on offense all day long.
Without Campbell, Junior,
Julie Hagis, was the days leading goal scorer with seven. She is the third Gator to notch seven goals in game this season, and finishes with 13 regular season goals. Campbell, and
Sara Morales the others. Morales had herself another day as well, picking up ten points with five goals and five assists. She will end the regular season as the teams leader in points with 37. She snagged eight draw controls on the day. With the game out of reach,
Averee Radonovich and
Hannah Mullaney also took turns in the draw circle.
A pair of Gators scored their first goals of the season. Junior attacker,
Maia Giafes, and sophomore defender,
Jaime Ballard. Ballard's goal drew noticeable cheers from the 20 or so people who watched from the hilltop adjacent to Alumnae Field.
The CSAC Tournament field is not quite set, but the top seeded Gators will host the #4 seed on Wednesday, April 21
st in the semi-final round. They have to wait until Monday night to know who that will be. Bryn Athyn and Wilson College are playing for the #2 and #3 seeds at 4:30pm today (Saturday). Centenary had the chance to capture the fourth and final spot, but lost to Keystone today, 11-9. That opens the door for Keystone to slide into the fourth seed with a win on Monday night when they host Cedar Crest at 6:00pm. If Cedar Crest picks up the win on Monday, three teams would be tied at 1-4 for the last spot, and tie breaker scenarios would play out, likely going three tiers down to least goals allowed in conference play. But for now, Keystone controls their destiny for the four seed.
NDMU vanquished Keystone, 19-2, in the 2021 season opener. The Giants will have revenge on their mind if they beat Cedar Crest and make their second trip to Baltimore this Wednesday.
