BALTIMORE – The Notre Dame (Md.) volleyball team (3-6) traveled to Westminster, Maryland on Friday evening but left with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-19) defeat to McDaniel College (3-2). The Gators would respond the following day with a 3-0 (25-17, 27-25, 25-21) win over St. Mary's College of Maryland despite a quick turnaround at the Tri-Match hosted by Washington College (Md.). NDMU moves to 3-6 on the season after falling 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-23) against the Shorewomen to end the evening 1-1.
"Our offense and defense really came together against a strong St. Mary's team," Head Coach Henry DeTitta said. "Cici Bockstie and Paulina provided a strong offense with 19 kills between them and our setters played really well. Natalie had her best match thus far with 19 assists, 11 digs, and 4 kills. Our defense was led by Libero Angel Carino and two outside hitters Jade Stewart and Paulina Hernandez who totaled 47 digs as a group."
OF NOTE - St. Mary's College of Maryland
- Ciarra Bockstie led the Gators with 11 kills in the win. Paulina Hernandez was second with nine followed by Emma Mueller's five kills.
- Natalie Newton spotted a season-high 19 assists. The second most by any Gator this season. Co-setter Emma Mueller added 14.
- Gabbi Taganas aggressive play at the net resulted in five blocks for a season-high.
- Carino led the Gators with 17 digs but teammates Stewart and Hernandez were not far off with 16 and 14 respectively.
OF NOTE - McDaniel College
- Five different Gators registered at least three kills in the loss.
- Bockstie corralled four kills and four blocks. The freshman has 19 blocks to lead all Gators this season.
- Mueller added 10 assists. She now has at least 10 setups for kills in six of nine matches.
- NDMU won the battle at the net 5-3 despite the loss.
OF NOTE - Washington College (Md.)
- The Gators took the momentum from the St. Mary's match into Washington College. Tied 19-19 in the first, the Shorewomen started to pull away. NDMU dropped the first set 25-22.
- After a one-sided second set, Newton, Mueller, and Bockstie had the Gators fighting to the end before dropping the final set 25-23.
- Mueller had 15 assists against the Shorewomen making 39 assists from all three matches to stretch her season lead to 103.
- Carino has 121 digs followed by Stewart's 97 and Hernandez's 87 to lead the Gators.
