Gators Fall 56-50 in Return to Action at Rosemont

BALTIMORE, MD – The Notre Dame of Maryland basketball game went down to the wire in Saturday afternoon 56-50 loss at Rosemont College (2-7, 2-3 CSAC). Alexis Durham led the way with 17 points, scoring 12 in the first half to erase a six points difficulty before the half. The freshman facilitated the scoring for the Gators, adding six assists to go along with seven boards in the loss. Notre Dame (Md.) will move to 3-3 in conference play and fifth in the CSAC standings. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Gators saw the return of senior Adrianna Fletcher to the court after missing the fall semester. Fletcher was a member of the 2018-19 CSAC All-Conference Honorable Mention team. The senior is fifth on the team's all-time list in made three-point field goal attempts with 111. She had four points in her return. 
  • Notre Dame (Md.) was without its second-leading scorer and the conference top rebounder (13.1 rpg) and rim-protector with (1.7 bpg) in Daija Fitchett
  • Durham provided the early offense, scoring on the game's first basket and finding Elena Rodriguez on the next to give the Gators a 4-0 lead. 
  • Durham had eight early points to keep things close with the Ravens up 17-12 after one quarter of play.
  • Bethani Newbold looked to add on the Gators offense with four early second-quarter scores to cut the lead to three points down 19-16. After a deep three to extend Rosemont lead, the Gators stormed back to behind scores from Rodriguez and Amya Durham
  • With just under two minutes remaining in the half, Alexis Durham drove for an easy lay-in to give Notre Dame a 26-24 with 1:40 on the clock. 
  • Rosemont held off the Gators late despite an eight points effort from Amya Durham in the second half. Durham would finish with 13 points and a team-high three steals. She's tied with Alexis with 2.1 steals per game. 
 
OF NOTE
  • Alexis Durham is averaging 10.9 ppg, 4.7 apg, 4.9 rpg, and 2.1 steals in her first year as the Gators starting point-guard. 
  • Notre Dame (Md.)  will move to 11-17 in its all-time meeting against Rosemont. 
  • The CSAC announced on Jan. 7 the decision to temporarily prohibit spectators at all athletic contests due to rising levels of the highly transmissible Omicron variant of COVID-19, effective immediately. This will remain in place through Jan. 31.
