Fletcher Becomes Fourth All-Time Three-Point Shooter in 67-46 Win

BALTIMORE, MD – The Notre Dame of Maryland basketball team held its second straight conference opponent scoreless for nearly an entire quarter of play in Saturday's 67-46 victory over Cedar Crest (2-10, 1-8 CSAC). The Gators were led by veterans Arianna Fletcher's 15 points on five threes, and Daija Fitchett's 10th double-double of the season (17 points, 16 rebounds). 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cedar Crest started the game up 6-4 but the almost Gators duplicated their efforts from their last outing, scoring 17 unanswered to run away with the early first-quarter lead. 
  • As a team the Gators went 8-for-13 in the quarter, shooting 61.5 percent. Alexis Durham had six points, Ayana Brim added five, and Fitchett had two blocks and five rebounds.  
  • In the second quarter, Fletcher came into the game and did most of the scoring for the  Gators from the three-point line. She went 4-for-5 from deep range in the quarter for 12 points.
  • The senior jumped Monica Cherry (2002-06) for the 4th most all-time made threes in program history with 6:24 to play in the quarter. Bethani Newbold was credited with the assist. 
  • With the Gators up 30-10 with 4:54 remaining, Newbold reconnected with Fletcher for her second and third triples, extending the lead 39-17 with 2:38 to play.   
  • In the third quarter, Notre Dame came out and it was apparent that the Gators wanted to disrupt the Falcons offense to secure the win at home. 
  • The Gators limited Cedar Crest to eye-opening 0-for-14 shooting in the third, taking a 27 point lead into the fourth. 
  • Fitchett had 12 points and added nine rebounds to her total in the second half to finish with 17 points and 16 rebounds. Brim finished with 11 points and eight boards. 


OF NOTE
  • Notre Dame collects its seventh conference victory and moves to 7-4 in the CSAC. The Gators are third in the CSAC standings. 
  • Fletcher becomes NDMU's 4th all-time three-point shooter with 118 career triples. She went 5-of-8 (.625), tying her personal best for most threes in a single game. She also tied for the fourth-best three-point shooting percentage from a single game. 
  • Fitchett is averaging a double-double with 13.8 points and 13.8 rebounds per game. She holds the league's blocks lead with 23 rejections. 
  • Newbold had a game-high six assists, finding her open teammates for a new career-high.  
  • The Gators are now 16-6 when facing Cedar Crest.
