BALTIMORE- The Notre Dame (MD) women's basketball team used a total team effort to defeat Carin University by a score of 93-34 on Saturday, December 3 in the MBK Sports Complex. The Gators had six players reach double figures, led by
Ayana Brim who scored 19 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gators (5-2 overall, 3-0 CSAC) set the tone right from the opening tip, with the Gators attacking in the paint behind senior forward
Ayana Brim. Brim scored the first 13 points of the game, allowing the Gators to take command.
Daija Fitchett continued to stretch the lead hitting back-to-back jump shots.
Kori People drilled a 3-pointer from the wing, making the score 26-4.
Alexis Jones and
Amya Durham each finished layups to give NDMU a 30-4 lead going to the break.
NDMU continued to pull way, scoring the first four points of the quarter. The Highlanders (2-5 overall, 0-2 CSAC) slowed the run momentarily, until
Elena Rodriguez drew a foul on jump shot, converting a three-point play. Rodriguez scored the next four points, putting the Gators ahead 43-9. People closed the quarter, scoring the final five points to give NDMU a 52-17 lead at the break.
The NDMU offense continued to fire on all cylinders in the second half, no matter who was on the floor for the Gators. The offense consistently created easy scoring opportunities in the paint, where they scored 68 of their 93 points. NDMU saw 11 different players score in the game. On defense the Gators harassed the Highlander's offense, forcing 33 turnovers. NDMU cruised to a 93-34 victory.
