Gators Season Ends in Semi-finals on 75-73 Defeat

BALTIMORE, MD – The Notre Dame of Maryland basketball team (14-10, 14-6 CSAC) suffered a devastating last second loss to No. 2 Keystone (18-7, 15-4 CSAC) on Wednesday despite four Gators posting double figures to close out the season. Notre Dame will end the season with the most wins (14) against CSAC opponents after a 13-5 finish to conclude the 2019-20 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the first, the Gators got early scoring from Bethani Newbold with the young guard giving Notre Dame eight points towards a 13-12 lead with 3:34 to play. 
  • Keystone pulled away late in the quarter to take a 21-16 lead into the second.
  • Alexis Durham and Chentel Curry brought the Gators back with two deep balls to give them a 24-23 lead. 
  • Adrianna Fletcher extended NDMU lead to 33-25 on a triple of her own with under five minutes left in the second quarter. 
  • Ayana Brim took over the game with fantastic paint play In the quarter. She had 13 at the half. 
  • Durham approached a near triple-double with 19 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for the game. She kept pace with Keystone throughout the third quarter on 6-of-14 from three. 
  • Defensive Player of the Year Daija Fitchett played her heart out in the fourth with eight points to go along with a late block and a timely steal that would have given the Gators a three-point lead with less than 30 seconds left in regulation. 

OF NOTE
  • Brim (17 points, 10 rebounds) was in double figures for the 19th time this season, 41 in two seasons at Notre Dame. She also collected her sixth double-double. 
  • Fitchett brought home her 18th game scoring in double figures and 18th double-double (15 points, 14 rebounds). She added a season-high six assists. Fitchett ended the year with 304 rebounds, surpassing her previous best of 303 (2019-20) for second on the single season list.  She falls just one block short of tying Zaria Comer (2017-18) for most blocks in a season. 
  • Durham ended the season with 18 games in double figures and a team-high 355 points. She led the team with 52 threes, tying for fourth most by a Gator. Durham's 142 assists this season is the third most in school history.
